I visited the Sultanate of Oman to observe the young crescent on 1. August. We observed the young moon from a hill not far from Muscat. Sky conditions were ok and the crescent was easy and wide anyway.
Image of the crescent after sunset, taken with a Canon 450D DSLR through a 60mm refractor telescope at 600mm focal length.
Image of the crescent above the cloud layers. Mercury is to the right of the crescent above the cloud and Regulus (alpha Leonis) further to the right and higher.
