Preview of the lunar crescent in September

Geocentric new moon will be in the morning of 29. September at 08:12 (UT).

29. September

Elongation at noon will be 4.36°, very difficult, even under EXCELLENT skies.

The moon will set some minutes before the sun, but it might be possible to observe the crescent during the afternoon, using the established real-time video system.

30. September

Elongation at noon will be 13.6°, which should be very simple. It might even be possible to observe the crescent visually, if the skies are good enough.

The moon will set 30 minutes after the sun, at an elongation of 15.5°. This could be observed visually, if the weather is good enough. It should be possible to follow the crescent through the day, all the way to the horizon, using the video system.
