Easy opportunity to observe the old crescent in the morning of 15. November 2009
Easy daytime observation throughout the day.

Monday, 16. November 2009


The lunar crescent rises just 26 minutes before the sun on monday, at 8.5° elongation. The crescent will be at 5° height at sunrise.


Situation around noon: daytime observation should be possible throughout the day, with the elongation steadily decreasing.


Elongation between sun and moon on 16. November.

The actual Conjunction will happen after sunset, at 19:14 UT.

The Moon rises at an elongation of 6.8°, after the sun, so daytime observation of the young crescent should be possible throughout the day.


Situation at noon: elongation is 8.5°, mercury is quite near, antares too, venus on other side of the sun. The elongation is steadily increasing throughout the day.


Elongation between sun and moon on 17. November.


At sunset the moon is at 9.8° elongation but only 3° altitude, sets just 24 minutes after the sun. This will be very difficult to observe.

The moon sets 75 minutes after the sun, at 21° elongation. Should be easy to observe visually.
