Im folgenden wird eine private Meinung veröffentlicht, die nicht von Olympus Deutschland autorisiert ist !
Bereits diverse Tests auf dieser Homepage haben gezeigt, daß es wohl nicht möglich ist, im Zenit Sterne scharf mit einer Olympus C-5050Z aufzunehmen. Das gleiche scheint für eine C-4040Z und C-2040Z zu gelten. Nach mehr als 50 einzelnen Kontaktaufnahmen mit Olympus Deutschland mit den verschiedensten Personen, vom Support über den Vertrieb bis hin zum Product Manager ergibt sich folgendes Ergebnis endloser Gespräche und Erklärungen:
Leider wollte und konnte mir Olympus nicht offiziell bestätigen, daß es damit ein Problem gibt. "Es könnte durchaus so sein, weil dafür die Kameras nicht konzipiert wurden" ist eine telefonische Aussage. Olympus kann und will aufgrund von Kapazitätsprobleme zum Testen und des zu geringen Anwenderkreises, den so etwas betrifft oder interessiert diesen Fall auch nicht weiter verfolgen. Zumindest hier in Deutschland...
Inoffiziell habe ich von einem Mitarbeiter telefonisch erfahren, daß das Problem wohl wirklich konstuktionsbedingt sei. Das Objektiv ist nur an zwei und nicht an drei Punkten innerhalb der Kamera befestigt. Dies kann also dazu führen, daß in der Tat die Linsen oder das ganze Objektiv verkippt. Deshalb ist es nicht möglich, daß man Sterne im Zenit scharf aufnehmen kann.
Lösung: Keine.
Workaround: Man könnten einen gekippten Spiegel vor der Kamera benutzen, damit man die Kamera nicht verkippen muss. Ich werde das in der nächsten Zeit einmal testen.
Persönliche Meinung: Ich findes es schade, daß sich hier Olympus nicht mehr Mühe gibt und einfach sagt, daß sie das Thema nicht weiter interessiert. Einerseits müssen sie natürlich wirtschaftlich denken, andererseits ist ein sehr guter Support meiner Meinung nach oftmals das entscheidende Kaufargument. Zumal die Kamera ansonsten wirklich sehr gut ist und ausser der Beschränkung bei der Belichtungszeit auf 16 Sekunden für astronomische Zwecke gut geeignet wäre.

Quite a few tests on this page have shown that it seems to be impossible to produce focussed images of stars in the zenit with a Olympus C-5050Z. The same problem seems to exist for the C-4040Z and C-2040Z. After more then 50 separate contacs with Olympus Germany, talking with a lot of different people (support, sales, product managment) there is now the following result and explanation:
Unfortunately Olympus does not want to officially confirm that a problem exists in the design of this camera. "It might be possible because the camera was not build for astronomical purposes" was a statement by phone. Olympus does not want and can not test and support this special problem because there are not enough people out there who are interested in this topic. Olympus does not have the capacity to do the required testing, either. At least here in Germany....
Inofficially a representative of Olympus told me that the problem could be indeed caused by the camera-design. The objective of the camera is only mounted on two instead of three points within the camera. This might lead to a shifting of the lenses or the whole objective. Therefore it is not possible to produce focused images of stars in the zenit.
Solution: None.
Workaround: You might use a tilted mirror in front of your camera, so you do not need to tilt your camera. I will test this in the near future.
Personal opinion: I think it is really a pity that Olympus does not care more about this topic. Of course they have to think about their profit first, but very often a good support is the best selling argument. Without this problem this camera could be well used for astronomical applications, despite the exposure-time-limit of 16 seconds.
